Performance

I’ve been playing trumpet since the age of ten and piano since the age of 14.  Sometimes when I want a more mellow tone, I play a flugelhorn, which is easy because a flugelhorn is played the same way as a trumpet!  A couple years ago, I began teaching myself to play the harmonica.  I am working on playing the harmonica along with piano – think Billy Joel and “Piano Man!”  It does take some coordination to blow in the right holes and hit the right piano keys, but I’m getting better at it with practice!

Recently I began to make myself available to play taps for funerals with military honors.  There are not many “live buglers” out there to play taps for military funerals, and often recordings need to be used.  I have connected with the Juniata County Veterans Council.  When they have a funeral with full military honors, they get in touch with me, and I provide “live” taps following the gun salute.  I never served in the military, but I have enormous respect and gratitude for those who have served.  Playing taps for military funerals is one small way I can show my gratitude and support for the men and women who serve our country in the armed forces.
